Most metal shingles will be attached to the roof using metal shingle.

When nailing the shingle do not place any nails closer than 6 from the valley center. Imbed each step flashing in a 75 mm 3 wide application of asphaltic plastic cement and nail in place. For three tab shingles place two quarter size spots of plastic roof cement under the lower corners of each tab as shown in figure 2 7. Understand the basic patterns.

You may want to lay a shingle find where it sits in the valley and give it a small bend so the shingle sits firmly in the crease. Consider four and five. All the other patterns work in essentially the same way offsetting. Stagger each course to achieve the half pattern.
